Isautier Velier Single Casks 3 x 70cl
The Isautier distillery was founded in 1845 by brothers Charles and Louis, twelve years after they first arrived on the Île de la Réunion. Following their deaths, Charles’ wife took over the company, renaming it Widow of Ch. Isautier & Sons in 1865. The distillery’s trademark stoneware bottles were also introduced around this time. The distillery was modernised by Alfred Isautier in 1910. He added a column still, increasing production and allowing its rum to be distributed around the world. 100 years later, it was modernised again when the company moved to a new state of the art distillery in 2011, where today it produces both molasses-based and agricole rums.
Velier was founded by Casimir Chaix in Genoa in 1947 as a wine and spirits importer and distributor. By the 1980s they were still a small family-company with less than ten staff. This all changed in 1986 when it was purchased by Luca Gargano, a former brand ambassador for Saint James who was at the time still in his twenties. Under his direction, they selected their first single cask whiskies in 1992, and their first rum in 1996. In the decades that followed, Velier have gone on to become one of the most collectible brands in the industry, and Gargano has positioned them as the one of the foremost authorities and bottlers of rum anywhere in the world.
