Cigüeña Collection

Company

The Cigüeña Collection is an incredibly rare assortment of rums, bottled by A. Van Wees in Amsterdam. The rums started life in casks at the E&A Scheer warehouses, and were discovered in mostly emptied barrels by a cooper called Tiemstra who filled them into demijohns acquired from Cees Van Wees. After tasting the rum, Van Wees bought the lot and transferred it into hand-numbered and labelled antique bottles. While initially intended to be stored for personal use, some bottles were eventually sold to A. Van Wees customers.

In total there are nineteen different bottlings from four different countries: Martinique, Guyana, Jamaica, and Barbados. Among these there are thirteen different vintages ranging between 1934 and 1967.

A rare 1949 vintage Barbados rum, bottled by A. Van Wees for its Cigüeña Collection. The rums were originally stored in casks at E&A Scheer, and were saved from the bottom of their original 15,000-litre barrels after the majority of the contents had been pumped into smaller vessels to facilitate their transportation to a new warehouse in 1984.
