Buyer Fees and Payment Terms
Rum Auctioneer is dedicated to ensuring our customers have trust and confidence in our services. We are transparent about all fees and charges at every step of the auction process.
Detailed information about buyer fees and payment terms can be found below. Please note, all fees quoted are exclusive of VAT.
Registration fee
£5
Our one-off registration fee provides lifetime access to buy and sell in all of our actions. It is required to help us authenticate our customers and mitigate against illegitimate bidding.
Buying commission
12.5% of final hammer price.
Buyers commission is added to your invoice during the checkout process, this applies to all lots won.
Conditional fees
Non-UK or EEA Credit Card Surcharge
3.5% - This charge will be added to all credit card payments for buyers from outside the UK or European Economic Area (EEA).
Local Taxation/Custom Charges
Please be aware that local taxation, customs charges or additional shipping costs may apply. Read more about this in our Shipping information.
Loss and Breakage Assurance (LBA)
4% of the Hammer Price
This optional cover will provide reimbursement for breakage or loss during transit. Full details and exclusions can be found on our Shipping page.
Please note that VAT may be applicable on charges, including additional charges such as, but not limited to; Registration fees, Listing fees and Reserve Fees.
Payment methods
We accept all major debit and credit cards, including Visa, Mastercard and American Express. Payment can also be made via bank transfer.
Payment terms
Payment for lots won must be made within 72 hours of the auction closing. A late payment charge of 3% of the outstanding balance will be applicable to any payments made after 72 hours.

Due to the governing laws for licensing in Scotland, there is a minimum price for alcohol units. As a result we have introduced a minimum bid price for each item, £20 will be the starting bid for most bottles of rum, but this will be calculated on a lot-by-lot basis (for example, multiple bottle lots will have a higher starting bid).
Rum Auctioneer makes it easy for rum enthusiasts and collectors worldwide to buy and sell rum through our monthly online auctions.
For Sellers:
- Our expert Client Service team provides free valuations and support on safely getting your bottles to our offices in Perth, Utrecht or London.
- Once received, your bottles are authenticated, professionally photographed, and listed in the next available auction (or an auction of your choice).
- After the auction closes, you’ll receive payment within 21 working days, with seller fees deducted from the final amount.
For Buyers:
- Browse and bid on an exceptional selection of rum from around the world.
- If you win, you’ll be notified by email and have 72 hours to complete payment.
- Choose to have your bottles shipped, stored, or collected. Buyer fees are applied at checkout.

When browsing the bidding history for a specific lot, you will see that all bids are anonymised and only display a date and time stamp.
Most courier companies fail to cover alcohol or glass on their insurance policies. We can offer Loss & Breakage Assurance for your items at a rate of 3% of the total value of all Lots included in your order.
Loss & Breakage Assurance is offered to warrant against the total breakage or loss of bottles in transit arising from human negligence. Loss & Breakage Assurance does not cover leakage attributable to the natural deterioration or unforeseen failure of closure materials.
