History

The Kirk & Sweeney brand was unveiled in 2012 by August Sebastiani, then president of The Other Guys in Sonoma California who marketed it it through their spirits division, 35 Maple Street. It joined their portfolio alongside their Uncle Val’s botanical gin and Masterson’s straight rye whiskey. The brand name is taken from a famous wooden schooner that was best known for smuggling rum from the Caribbean to the north-eastern United States during Prohibition in the 1920s and early 1930s.

The rum is produced in the Dominican Republic at the J. Armando Bermudez & Co distillery in Santiago de los Caballeros. They distil it on their four-column still and age it on-site in a combination of American and French oak casks. An "average age" process is used whereby casks are dumped, blended and re-casked several times by the distillery's master blender, with the final weighted average age of each final blend calculated at the end.

In 2015, The Other Guys was reorganised as the 3 Badge Beverage Corporation with two new divisions called Mixology for its spirits and Enology for its wine.
