Destilería Carúpano CA is a rum producing company based in Venezuela. It operates out of the historic Hacienda Altamira in Macarapana, built in 1762 by the Spanish captain, Felix del Fierro. The area has a long rum-making tradition and was the first in Venezuela to use casks from Europe to age its spirit. The company was established in the 1950s by the Morrison family, who acquired the Hacienda having been abandoned since 1901. Although originally a partnership with Alejandro Hernandez (owner of Pampero), the family have been majority owners since 1962.
There is no distillery in the Hacienda Altamira, and it is instead an ageing facility for spirit acquired elsewhere. The company blends these and ages them to its own specifications before bottling and marketing it as Carúpano rum.
