Rhum St James April
Summary title
A Warm Welcome to Our April Auction
Summary

This month we are delighted to spotlight a remarkable selection of rums, including one that has never appeared at auction and others seen only a handful of times.

Leading the line-up is the Saint James 1885 Rhum Vieux Litre, widely regarded as the oldest vintage rum in existence. Distilled in Martinique and bottled in the 1940s, it survived the devastating 1902 eruption of Mount Pelée, which destroyed much of the island’s rum stocks.

From Jamaica, Wray & Nephew’s Finest Commemorative 25 Year Old marks the island’s 25th year of independence. Produced in very limited numbers and originally gifted to staff, it remains one of the earliest and most collectible expressions connected to the Appleton estate.

We are also delighted to present the R.A.S.C. Jamaica Rum Rotation 1954 Second Release, one of just 108 bottles. Drawn from a vatting of Royal Navy flagons curated by Luca Gargano and Giuseppe Begnoni, it is a compelling piece of rum history and a very elusive bottle for Velier enthusiasts.

Continuing with Jamaica, we have Alfred Lamb’s 1939 Special Reserve. This bottle represents a superb vintage from a historic British rum house, which was distilled in Jamaica, aged in a puncheon, and later bottled in Scotland. It offers a fascinating glimpse into pre-war rum production and the evolution of classic blends.

Collectors of agricole rum will be in for a treat this month with the extremely rare Trois Rivières 1977 Millésime Très Vieux. While Rum Auctioneer has occasionally featured other legendary vintages from this producer, this is the first time we have offered this particular bottle at auction - a rare opportunity for those wishing to add to their collections.

To round off this month's selection is the El Dorado Grand Special Reserve. Created to mark 50 years of Guyana’s independence, this bottling brings together distillates from the famed Port Mourant and Versailles wooden stills, alongside Diamond and Uitvlugt marques. Rarely seen and highly regarded, it stands as a celebration of Guyana’s distilling heritage.
