This month, we are delighted to present a fascinating selection of rare and historic rums, from pioneering early independent bottlings to exceptional examples of long tropical maturation.

Among the standout lots are two early Velier releases from 1996, the WIRD 1987 Rare Old 9 Year Old and Arechebala 1990 5 Year Old Añejo de Cuba. Released long before Velier became known for its direct collaborations with distilleries, these bottles offer a glimpse into an earlier chapter of the Italian company's history. Both distilleries have appeared only rarely under the Velier name, making these particularly intriguing finds for collectors.

Also featured is the Triple Entente Caribbean Rum Box Set, an unusual 2021 release bringing together unaged rums from three of the Caribbean's most celebrated producers: Neisson, Hampden and Foursquare. Offering the opportunity to explore these distinctive distillates in their unaged form, the set provides a fascinating insight into the raw spirit behind each house style.

For fans of well-aged Jamaican rum, the Rum Sapiens Monymusk MMW 1984 35 Year Old bottlings are a remarkable pair. Tropically aged in Jamaica for 35 years, these rums have retained exceptionally high strengths of 69% and 63.1% ABV. Drawn from a vatting of two casks, the pair was released at both natural cask strength and a slightly reduced proof, allowing for two different interpretations of this increasingly rare style of long-aged Wedderburn rum.

Completing the highlights is an intriguing example of 1970s Jamaican rum in the form of Buccaneer Rum. Selected by pioneering Italian importer and bar owner Eduardo Giaccone, whose approach to specialist spirit selection helped pave the way for later independent bottlers, the release was produced by Edwin Charley, a subsidiary of Wray & Nephew. This makes it a collectible example of 1970s Appleton rum, presented under a far less familiar label than collectors might typically encounter.
