Discover and bid on unique, rare and collectible rums in our online auctions each month.
You can place bids either under the lot image on the main auction page or on the right side of the individual lot page.
Placing a Maximum Bid
Use the "Set your bid limit" button on the left side of the bidding panel to enter the highest amount you're willing to bid on a lot. Our system will then automatically raise your bid in set increments if you’re outbid, up to your maximum. If someone bids above your set limit, we’ll notify you by email so you can choose whether to increase your bid.
Placing a Single Bid
Alternatively, place a single bid by selecting the button on the right side of the bidding panel. The button displays the amount needed for the next increment. For example, if the current highest bid is £50.00, the button will show "+ £5.00" (reflecting a £5.00 increment).
Incremental Bidding Explained
Our system increases bids based on preset increments, as shown in the table below, whether you set a maximum bid or make a single bid.
Dark Matter Inaugural Release: Physicist Series 'Heisenberg'
Dark Matter Distillers is located in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, and broke new ground by becoming the country's first official rum distillery when its license was granted in April 2015. Despite the rich distilling heritage of the region for a certain other spirit, the distillery is singularly focussed on rum production. Its equipment was designed and built by the revered John Dore & Co, a company with a longstanding tradition of work with rum distilleries, who's stills can be found in many of the highest-profile producers across the Caribbean and South America. Dark Matter Distillers' is a 1,000 litre hybrid pot, retort and column still that allows for a range of marks to be produced. Aside from its location, what makes the distillery truly unique is its fermentation which includes a prior pasteurisation of the wash, a step inspired by the forgotten texts of Rafael Arroyo and abandoned by many several decades ago due to its time and cost consumption.
Rum Auctioneer is delighted to have partnered with the distillery to exclusively offer its inaugural release, The Physicist Series. The nine individually labelled bottles were drawn from the distillery's first cask to be filled. Cask #001 was a hand-selected virgin American Oak barrel with a medium char, filled on 28th of August 2015. As its first cask, the rum was intended to be the truest expression of the distillery's spirit, with no other influence on it other than the wood. The Physicist Series is a nod to the distillery's branding and ethos, and each of the nine bottles represents a scientist whose imagination and insights have shaped our understanding of the universe.
The rum is bottled pure and unadulterated at 6 years old, with no filtering, dilution, additives, sugar or colourings.
The complete series of bottles 1 through 9 are available exclusively from Rum Auctioneer during our November 2021 Auction.
