This month’s selection offers a deep dive into rare, characterful rums, spanning pre-industrial examples through to influential modern releases.

Stealing the show are four individual bottlings from the Edwin Charley Proprietor's Collection, a 2005 series combining Appleton Estate rums with hand-blown Venetian glass, each design reflecting a different aspect of Jamaican rum-making tradition.

Also featured is the Black Tot Last Consignment from Speciality Drinks, bottled from the final Royal Navy rum flagons sealed in 1970, an important reference point in the story of naval rum and the origins of the Black Tot name.

From Guyana, we have a 1974 Port Mourant distilled on the double wooden still at Uitvlugt and aged for 44 years, bottled by Kingsbury Whisky. A historic vintage with a punchy age statement, it is a favourite among collectors and fans of Guyanese rum.

We are pleased to feature the 1885 Saint James Rhum Vieux. This bottle is a rare surviving example of early agricole rum, produced using pre-industrial techniques and bottled in 1940. Often regarded as a holy grail for rum enthusiasts, it reflects a very different era of distillation.

Completing the selection are two vintages from Trois Rivières, 1953 and 1974, which provide a clear link to Martinique’s long-established rum-making heritage.
