Banks is a rum brand owned and produced by Bacardi Limited. Its proprietary expressions are a 5-year-old and 7-year-old blend of rums from various origins, including Trinidad, Jamaica, Guyana, Barbados, Panama, Guatemala and Indonesia. The label is named after the 18th-century explorer and botanist Sir Joseph Banks.

Prior to the brand's acquisition by Bacardi Limited in 2015, it also produced a range of independently bottled single distillery rums within its Connoisseurs Cut range.

History

The Banks rum brand was founded in 2008 by Arnaud de Trabuc, a former CEO of the House of Angostura and president of Cognac producer, Thomas Hine & Company.

The original company was called the Joseph Banks Rums Corporation and was based in Port Louis, Mauritius. The blends for its range were sourced from E&A Scheer in The Netherlands and were called Golden Age and a white rum called Island Blend. The company also offered a premium range called Connoisseurs Cut, which included two Port Mourant single rums from Guyana, released in 2012 and 2013.

In 2015 it was announced that the brand would be acquired by Bacardi Limited, who continue to produce it to this day.
