A sugar factory in Guyana that operated a rum distillery until 1999. Pronounced [eye-flut], it was located on the west bank of the Demerara river near the Dutch-established town of the same name. The distillery operated a number of historic stills, many of which are still in operation at Diamond.
A rum brand owned and produced by Bacardi Limited. Its proprietary expressions are a 5-year-old and 7-year-old blend of rums from various origins, including Trinidad, Jamaica, Guyana, Barbados, Panama, Guatemala and Indonesia. The label is named after the 18th-century explorer Sir Joseph Banks.
The creator of the Banks rum brand. It was founded in 2008 by Arnaud de Trabuc, a former CEO of the House of Angostura and president of Cognac producer, Thomas Hine & Company. The company ceased operations in 2015 when it announced a deal to sell Banks to Bacardi Limited.
