Penny Blue was a brand of Mauritius rum, named after a postal stamp created as part of the country's inaugural postal service in 1847. Only 500 were printed, making it one of the rarest collectible stamps in the world. The rum brand was launched in 2013 by the Indian Ocean Rum Company, a co-venture between UK-based Berry Brothers & Rudd (BBR) and the Medine Group, who produced it at their Medine distillery.
The trademark for the brand belongs to BBR however, and it has since been discontinued since it sold its share of the Indian Ocean Rum Company to Medine in 2021. In its time, it was available as a white cane juice rum called Pure Cane, aged molasses rums in VSOP and XO expressions, and a variety of single cask releases.
