National Rums of Jamaica (sometimes referred to as NRJ) was established in 1980 by the Jamaican government as a holding company for its various distilleries. Seeking additional investment in 2006, the government sold a one-third share in the business to each of Demerara Distillers Ltd of Guyana and the West Indies Rum Distillery Ltd of Barbados (now part of French company Maison Ferrand).
The company owns the Clarendon and Long Pond distilleries, as well as the closed Innswood facility where it ages its stock. Its rum brands include Long Pond and Monymusk.
