Clarendon distillery was built in 1949 as part of the Monymusk Sugar Factory in Lionel Town, Jamaica. As of 1980 it has been run separately by National Rums of Jamaica (NRJ), originally a government-owned company but now shared between it, Demerara Distillers Ltd and Masion Ferrand. Claredon itself is only majority-owned by NRJ, with a small stake controlled by Diageo who use its spirit for their Captain Morgan label.
The distillery uses a variety of pot and column stills to produce molasses-based rum. Its flagship in-house brand is called Monymusk and was launched in 2011.
