Société d’Investissement des Caraïbes SARL (SIC) was a company established in 1955 by the Marquis de Vibraye, created using money paid to him by the French republic by way of reparations for property lost following the dissolution of the Indochinese Federation. Vibraye used the company to acquire the Rhum Saint-James SA company from the Lambert family in the same year.
Under SIC ownership, a second Saint James distillery was built on the company's Acajou estate in Lamentin and the original facility in Saint-Pierre was upgraded and expanded. Unfortunately, the company did not spend wisely and following a tax audit in 1965 it was declared bankrupt and placed into liquidation. The Saint James operation was rescued in 1967 by its French distributor, Picon SA.
