The Albion sugar estate was founded in the latter half of the 19th century and is located to the east of the Berbice river in Guyana. While it still exists, since 1953 it has been part of the amalgamated Albion/Port Mourant estate and is owned by the Guyana Sugar Corporation Inc (GuySuCo).
The distillery on the estate is long closed however, and was shut down in 1968 as part of consolidation efforts by then-owner, Bookers McConnell Ltd.
Rum produced on the Albion estate was sold in casks with the AN marque stamped on them. Despite having closed the distillery in 1968, Booker McConnell Ltd and later, Demerara Distillers Ltd (DDL) continued to produce rums in the AN style at the Enmore, Uitvlugt and now Diamond distilleries. The original Albion stills were not retained, so AN rum has been produced on both the Enmore wooden coffey still and the four-column Savalle from Uitvlugt. An AW marque is also attributed to Albion and is believed to involve the Port Mourant wooden pot still in its production.
The earliest official bottlings of Albion were released in 2008 as part of the collaboration between DDL and the Italian distributor, Velier SpA. Two more followed in 2012 before the partnership between the companies ended two years later. Subsequent appearances of the Albion marques have come as part of the Rare Collection series from DDL's El Dorado brand.
