La Bonne Intention was a sugar estate in Guyana, founded in the late 18th century and located on the east bank of the Demerara river. It was closed in 2016 by the Guyana Sugar Corporation Inc (GuySuCo).
Rum production on the estate had long since ceased however. Formerly owned by Booker Brothers, McConnell & Co, its distillery had been dismantled as part of rationalisation efforts by the company in 1959.
While not marketed as a distinct brand, the La Bonne Intention name is used to denote rums in the style once produced at the distillery. These bear the cask marque LDI, and were produced by both Booker McConnell and now by Demerara Distillers Ltd (DDL) at the Uitvlugt and then Diamond distilleries.
Despite continued production, LBI rums remain rare and have only been officially bottled once. Released in 2007, the bottle was part of a series of DDL rums produced in collaboration with the Italian distributor, Velier SpA. A handful of casks have also been bottled by independent companies however.
