Monte Negro is a small rum distillery on Santiago, the main island of the Cabo Verde (Cape Verde) archipelago off the coast of west Africa. It produces the regional rum variation called Grogue, which it pot-distils from freshly squeezed cane juice in its wood-fired 350-liter copper pot stills.
In 2019 the distillery's rum was introduced to export markets by Velier. With trademark issues around the distillery's name (which it shares with a notable Amaro producer in Italy), the brand is instead named after its founding family, Barbosa.
