Caroni 1982 High Proof 23 Year Old Heavy
From the first releases in 2005, this is a 1982 vintage and aged 23 years before being bottled for Velier in France. One of 1,360 bottles produced from a stock of 8 barrels.
An example of the distillery's heavy type (HTR) rum, this was produced in the brief period between 1980 and 1985 when some sherry was added by Caroni (1975) Ltd to the spirit. This was due to a fear that the decommissioning of the distillery's pot still would reduce the trademark aromatics of its production. The practice was later altered and the sherry added at the blending stage so it is unclear which (if any) Velier bottlings include this as an additive.
