Caroni 1983 High Proof 22 Year Old Heavy
This 1983 vintage is a vatting of 78 casks. An example of the distillery's heavy type (HTR) rum, this was produced in the brief period between 1980 and 1985 when some sherry was added by Caroni (1975) Ltd to the spirit. This was due to a fear that the decommissioning of the distillery's pot still would reduce the trademark aromatics of its production. The practice was later altered and the sherry added at the blending stage so it is unclear which (if any) Velier bottlings include this as an additive.
