CL Financial Ltd is a company established in 1993 by Lawrence Duprey. Its initial purpose was as a holding company for the Colonial Life Insurance Company (CLICO), however it quickly expanded and made several investments in the spirits industry. However, a liquidity crisis saw the company announce in 2009 that it would receive a bail out of $7.3bn from the government in Trinidad & Tobago and after a decade of difficulties it was placed into liquidation in 2022.
The company is best-known in the rum world as the parent of Angostura Holdings and its related subsidiaries. Over the years it also had interests in Saint Lucia Distillers, Cruzan, E&A Scheer and J. Wray & Nephew.
