The Fernandes distillery was located in Laventille, on the outskirts of Port of Spain in Trinidad. It was built by Joseph "Bento" Fernandes in the mid-20th century and was the production centre for Fernandes Distillers Ltd and its associated brands. In 1973 the company was acquired by neighbours, Angostura, and in 1975 the distillery was closed. Production of Fernandes brands continued across the street at Trinidad Distillers, however its old Savalle column still was dismantled and decommissioned.

The distillery is the original home of a number of brands that are still produced by Angostura today, including Forres Park and Fernandes itself.

The company of Fernandes & Co was blending and bottling rum in Trinidad as early as the later 19th century. The most notable early Fernandes-branded rum was produced in 1930 however, when Joseph Fernandes acquired a collection of casks from the government following a fire at one of its bonds. Mostly distilled in 1919, the rum became Fernandes 1919 and was the first vintage rum to be marketed in Trinidad. It set the foundation for the company's flagship Vat 19 label, and it immortalised today in the premium Angostura 1919 expression.

After the takeover of Fernandes Distillers Ltd by Angostura, the Fernandes brand continued to be produced. It is currently available as a single release called Black Label Rum, however the name also appears on the company's cherry brandies.
