Black Collar is a distillery located near Kerikeri in the northerly part of the New Zealand's north island. It was established in 2017 by Jonathan McLean and takes its name from the term given to the region's coal mine and oil field workers.
The distillery operates a modern pot still setup with an advanced cooling system that results in zero waste water during production. Its range of spirits includes aged and spiced rums as well as gin and vodka.
The Black Collar brand was launched in 2018 with the release of the distillery's first vodka. This was promptly followed by its proprietary small batch gin and first limited editions in winter that year.
Its aged rum was also introduced in New Zealand in 2018 and is released regularly in small batches. Its range is rounded out by two spiced rum varieties, one of which is flavoured with pineapple.
