The Cartavio distillery is a historic industrial plant in Peru, first established in 1929 by the Cartavio Sugar Company Ltda. It is today owned by The Fierro Group, a Spanish multinational who acquired it in 1994. The have since managed it via a succession of subsidiaries that include Empresa Industrial Cartavio, Destilerías Unidas SAC (DUSAC), and most recently, Cartavio Rum Company.
The distillery uses molasses as a base for its rums, which are distilled on a combination of vacuum and non-vacuum column stills, and a John Dore pot still built in 1953.
Ron Cartavio is a historic rum brand and is as old as the distillery where it is made. it was first introduced in in 1929 by the Cartavio Sugar Company Ltda under ownership of W.R. Grace & Co before passing through the hands of the Peruvian government to the Fierro Group in Spain, who acquired it along with the distillery in 1994.
The brand has a number of core expressions alongside a selection of premium offering, introduced following its entry to the US markets in 2008.

Distillery is built under ownership of W.R. Grace & Co. It opens on April 29th.
Cartavio rum is launched.
The distillery is acquired by the Peruvian government.
The government establishes Sociedad Paramonga Ltda to run the distillery.
Sociedad Paramonga Ltda is acquired by The Fierro Group and the distillery is placed into a new subsidiary called Industrial Cartavio SA.
The distillery name is changed to Destilerías Unidas SAC (DUSAC).
Destilerías Unidas SAC becomes the Cartavio Rum Company SAC.
