Historically known as Espérance, the Distillerie Longueteau is a very old rum distillery on the Basse-Terre island of Guadeloupe, and the only producer in the region that is fully self-sufficient in sugarcane. It was built in 1895 by Louis-Philippe Henri Longueteau within the old sugar factory of Le Domaine du Marquisat de Sainte-Marie. The distillery remains family-owned, and was acquired by François Longueteau's Distillerie Longueteau SARL in 2005.
The distillery traditionally produced the Mon Repos rum brand until it fell out of favour with consumers in the 1980s. Today its flagship label is Longueteau, and it also distils rum for Karukera.
Longueteau is the flagship rum label of the distillery and was introduced following the takeover of François Longueteau's company - Distillerie Longueteau SARL - in 2005. The first casks were laid down for ageing the following year. The rums are produced using canne rouge and canne bleue sugarcane grown within Le Domaine du Marquisat de Sainte-Marie.
The brand's portfolio is broad, covering both agricole blanc at a variety of strengths, and rhum vieux agricole in VS, VSOP and XO expressions.
