O Reizinho is a small rum distillery on the Portuguese island of Madeira. It is owned and operated by Pedro Ferreira and his family, and was originally established as a hobby in 1982 by his father. It was officially registered in 2013 and has been commercially active ever since. The name O Reizinho means "little king" and is an homage to Ferreira's great-grandfather who was born 2-months premature in 1875.
The distillery produces a pot-distilled version of the local agricola da Madeira using the fresh juice of six different varieties of local cane.
The distillery began marketing its Aguardente de Cana de Santa Cruz shotly after its registration in 2013. Its long-term goal however, was to begin laying down casks so that it could sell aged rum in the future.
The inaugural cask-aged O Reizinho rums debuted in 2018 along with a new brand identity for the distillery and its products. Its core range continues to offer a white rum, alongside 3- and 6-year-old expressions, as well as limited edition cask-finished rums.
