Distillerie Reimonenq is a small but historic rum distillery on the Grand-Terre island of Guadeloupe. Located in Sainte-Rose, it was built in 1916 by brothers Fernand and Joseph Reimonenq and remains family-owned to this day through the company, Etablissements Bellevue-Reimonenq SARL.
The distillery was modernised under the ownership of Léopold Reimonenq in 1969 and it operates a stainless steel column still, producing rum using sugarcane juice produced from an electric mill, unlike the steam powered machinery more commonly used elsewhere in the region. The distillery owns 20-hectares of its own sugarcane estate, and also buys in additional provision from local farmers.
The focus of the Reimonenq rum brand is rhum vieux, which it began experimenting with under the ownership of Léopold Reimonenq in the 1950s. It built its first ageing cellar in 1960 and released its first cask-aged rum under the Grand Corsaire brand name in 1965.
The distillery's rum has been marketed under the Reimonenq name since the 1990s. its white rum is referred to by its historic name, Coeur de Chauffe, while its selection of rhum vieux is expansive, ranging from 2- to -19-years-old.
