A sugar factory in Guyana that operated a rum distillery until 1999. Pronounced [eye-flut], it was located on the west bank of the Demerara river near the Dutch-established town of the same name. The distillery operated a number of historic stills, many of which are still in operation at Diamond.
Port Mourant
A sugar estate in Guyana that produced rum until the closure of its factory in 1953. The estate is today merged with that of Albion and run by GuySuCo, however the original double wooden pot still from its distillery is still in use by Demerara Distillers Ltd at Diamond.
Demerara Distillers Ltd
A rum company in Guyana, founded in 1983 through the merger of Guyana Distilleries Ltd and Diamond Liquors Ltd. Its flagship brand is the El Dorado label, which produces on a variety of still at Diamond. It also has subsidiary interests across the Caribbean and Europe.
