Richland Distilling Company LLC was established in the United States in 1999 by a Dutch expatriate named Erik Vonk. It was founded at the 1,700-acre Vennebroeck Estate in Georgia where it began cultivating sugarcane for the production of its rum brands.
The company originally produced rum under the Vennebroeck Velvet name, later rebranding as the Richland Distilling Company in 2011 and launching Richland Rum the following year. It owns two distilleries, the first in the town of Richland which it opened in 2008, and a second in Brunswick which began production in 2018.
