A1710 is a small rum distillery located within the Habitation Simon, an estate towards the east of Martinique. The name is derived from both the initial of the estate’s founder, Jean Assier, and the year in which he did so, 1710. The distillery was not founded until 2016, however, by Yves Assier de Pompignan who had acquired the estate ten years prior with the express intention of making rum there.
Using a pair of copper Charentais copper stills with seven-plate Creole columns (installed in 2015 and the second in 2023), the distillery produces rhum agricole that is bottled and marketed using the eponymous A1710 brand name.
The A1710 brand was introduced in 2016 with the introduction of three aged blends called Soleil de Minuit, Nuée Ardente and Tricentenaire, as well as the distillery's own unaged rum which it called Renaissance.
There were followed by further white rum releases of the distillery's own in-house production, known as La Perle, Diamond Rock and Bête à Feu. Its first aged rums were bottled under the names Cheval Bondieu and La Délivrande.
