Rhums Martiniquais Saint-James SAS (also referred to as RMSJ) is a Martinique-based subsidiary of the La Martinquaise spirits division of French multinational, COFEPP. It was established in 1974 as Distilleries des Rhums Agricoles by Cointreau & Cie in order to supervise production at its newly built distillery in Sainte-Marie. Following the creation of Rémy Cointreau in 1990, the new holding group sought to rationalise the disparate Saint James group, and Distillerie des Rhums Agricoles (which owned the Maniba brand) absorbed Saint James International (which owned the global trademarks for, and distribution of the Saint James brand) and Distillerie des Rhums Saint James which was established in 1989 to take over running Sainte-Marie. The newly streamlined company was renamed Rhums Martiniquais Saint-James in 1995.
The company was sold by Rémy Cointreau to COFEPP in 2003 and in addition to Saint James, is also today the owner of the historic J. Bally brand.
