Pure single cane juice rum

Chamarel is a rum distillery on the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius. It is located in the region after which it is named, situated on the Domaine de L'Exil. It was founded in 2008 by the Couacaud family who own it through the company, L'Exil Limitée.

The distillery produces only cane juice rums using its own estate-grown sugarcane. It makes both white rum on a Barbet copper column still, as well as a double-distilled rum produced akin to cognac on two 20-hL copper pot stills. The distillate is rested for 6 months in stainless steel, before the ageing stock is warehoused in American and French oak casks, often followed by an interesting selection of experimental wood finishes.

The Chamarel brand was launched in 2009 with the bottling of the distillery's first rums and it began to appear in export markets for the first time around 2013. By that point its range included a 4-year-old VSOP rum, a rested but unaged white rum and two different liqueurs.

Today the range is much expanded and contains two column-distilled and one double-distilled white rums, a selection of gold, spiced and liqueur rums, and aged rums in VS, VSOP and XO formats. These are supported by premium lines that include a collection of different cask-finished 8-year-old expressions and its Extra Old small batch releases.
