Distillerie Poisson was built in 1916 by Edouard Rameau. It takes its name from the estate and sugar factory built by Catherine Poisson in 1863, who sold out to Rameau at the end of the 19th century. As of 2007, the distillery has been owned by Jean-Cedric Brot and José Pirbakas through a company called Pere Labat-Domain Poisson SAS.
The distillery produces traditional cane juice rums on its Creole column still, which are bottled and marketed under the Père Labat brand name. The distillery is also currently home to the pot still that produces the Rhum Rhum brand after it was relocated from neighbouring Bielle.
