Ronera San José is one of a number of state-owned rum distilleries in Cuba that form the production holdings of Corporación Cuba Ron SA (Cubaron). It was opened in 2007 as a response to the need for additional provision for its flagship Havana Club brand, a result of its successful partnership with Pernod Ricard which helped increase global distribution and marketing of the label.
The distillery was designed for Cubaron in France by Honore SAS and in addition to being a production facility, it also houses extensive ageing warehouses and a bottling plant. The San José plant primarily produces the low-proof aguardiente for Havana Club, which is then blended with high-proof destilado de caña from Ronera Santa Cruz.
