An incredible old vintage of Jamaican rum, distilled at the Hampden Estate distillery in 1959. It was aged in the tropics for three years before being shipped to Amsterdam in 1962 where it remained in oak until 1988. The rum was then transferred to a demijohn in the cellars of Cees van Wees, where it remained until sniffed out by Luca Gargano on a visit to the A. van Wees Distilleerderij de Ooievaar in 2019.
Gargano then returned to Amsterdam in 2022 where he assisted Fenny van Wees (daughter of Cees) and the A. van Wees company with the bottling of this spectacular rum. The demijohn yielded just 218 bottles having retained an incredible cask strength of 71.9% ABV.
A historic and revered Jamaican distillery, known for its high-ester pot still rums. As of 2009 it has been owned by Everglades Farms Ltd and the company introduced its first distillery bottlings in 2010. As of 2018 the the Hampden Estate brand is distributed globally by La Maison & Velier.
A historic Dutch company founded back 1872 and originally a wholesaler and distributor of spirit such as genevers, bitters and liqueurs. It refocussed itself upon craft distilling in the 1970s under management by Cees van Wees and today operates the de Ooievaar distillery.
