Saint James (Sainte-Marie)
The current Saint James distillery is located in the town of Sainte-Marie on Martinique. It was opened in 1974 in order to consolidate and modernise production of the historic rhum agricole brand following its acquisition by the French company, Cointreau & Cie SA. It is still French-owned today, and has been part of the La Martinquaise division of COFEPP since 2003.
The distillery produces AOC-accredited Martinique rum from its own estate-grown C4 sugarcane and is the production home of both the Saint James and J. Bally brands. The wider Saint James estate also houses a rum museum, still museum and vintage cellar, and a visitor experience within a restored 17th century sugar refinery at the Habitation La Salle.
