Rhum Maniba is one of several secondary brands of rhum agricole that have been produced at the Saint James distillery in Saint-Marie over the years. The label was originally independent and was distilled and bottled at its own distillery, which operated from the 1920s until the 1960s, after which it is believed its column still was acquired by the J. Bally distillery at Lajus.
By 1987 the label was still owned by Usine Union Maniba SA, which was then acquired by the Cointreau & Cie subsidiary and owner of the Saint-Marie facility, Distillerie des Rhums Agricoles. That company later merged with several others to become current brand owner, Rhums Martiniquais Saint-James.
