The Enmore sugar estate was established by Edward Henry Porter in the early 19th century after he converted from his father's former cotton plantation on the east bank of the Demerara river. Its rum distillery was nationalised by the government of Guyana in 1976 and placed in the control of Demerara Distillers Ltd (DDL) in 1983. Consolidation efforts by the company saw it closed down in 1994.

Until its closure, the distillery's rum was either sold in bulk or contributed to the blends of DDL's El Dorado brand.

While not marketed as a brand in the traditional sense, the Enmore name is a trademark of Demerara Distillers Ltd (DDL). Rums produced at the distillery on its two-column wooden coffey still were usually identified by the EHP marque, and it along with a handful of others are labelled as Enmore when bottled in unblended form.

The first official bottling of Enmore was released in 2007 as part of the DDL collaboration with Italian distributors, Velier SpA. The partnership lasted until 2014, in which time a further three were bottled, as well an an Enmore component in one the Blended in the Barrel releases. In 2010 an EHP marque was also included in the Connoisseur Range of single barrel El Dorado bottlings by DDL, and subsequent Enmore rums have also appeared as part of that brand's Single Stills and Rare Collection series.
