Distillerie Neisson is a rhum agricole producer located in Le Carbet on the north-western coast of Martinique. It was established in 1932 by Adrien and Jean Neisson, the former of whom had acquired 20-ha of the Thieubert estate the previous year. Today it is run by Jean's daughter and grandson - Claudine and Grégory Vernant - through their company, Domaines Thieubert EARL.
The distillery operates a Creole column still built by Savalle and installed at Neisson in 1952. It distils Martinique's AOC rhum agricole on it using fresh cane juice sourced from sixteen neighbouring fields. The distillery is also renowned for using a yeast strain indigenous to its own specific terroir.
Neisson is a rhum agricole brand, produced in accordance to the strict regulations defined by the Martinique AOC. The label has been popular domestically for many years, and was originally exported to France via an import company set up by Jean Neisson in Paris. Today the brand is best-known for its iconic square bottle shape - affectionately known as Zépol Karé - which was introduced in 1952.
The brand has gone from strength to strength under the ownership of Domaines Thieubert EARL and today has an extensive core range that offers both rhum blanc and rhum vieux expressions alongside a variety of organic, vintage and premium collector's edition offerings.
