Roneras Santiago de Cuba is the oldest operating distillery in Cuba, established in 1862 by Don Facundo Bacardí Massó. It was the production facility of Compañía Ron Bacardi for nearly a century, before being nationalised in 1960 by Fidel Castro's government. It has remained state-owned ever since and was assigned to Corporación Cuba Ron SA (Cubaron) upon its establishment in 1993.
While is has not produced Bacardi rum since 1960, the distillery has become home to a number of other brands since. Its namesake Ron Santiago de Cuba brand is a 50:50 venture between Cubaron and Diageo, and it also produces Arecha, Varadero and Ron Caney.
