Savanna
Savanna is a versatile rum distillery on the island of Réunion. Established in 1870, it was originally located in Saint-Paul before being relocated to the Bois-Rouge sugar factory in 1992. It is today owned by Réunionnaise du Rhum SAS, a company part-owned by Picard Vins et Spiritueux, J. Chatel and Adrien Bellier SA.
Operating a range of stills that include a C20 and a Savalle column still, as well a small pot still, the distillery produces a range of different rum styles that include the island's standard rhum traditionnel alongside some rhum agricole.
Rum from the Savanna distillery has historically been produced under a variety of names that have included Rhum Bourbon and Varangue. The eponymous Savanna brand was introduced in the early 2000s under the ownership of Groupe Quartier Français.
Following a rebrand of the distillery in 2021, the current core range is divided between its Cocktail, Old and Limited collections. The Cocktail range includes white rums called Intense 41.2, Lontan 57.5 and Créol 52, which are traditionnel, grand arôme and agricole rums, respectively. The Old series is all molasses rums, with expressions called Le Must, Métis and a 5-year-old.
