Diamond is the last remaining rum distillery in Guyana from what was once a densely populated industry around the Demerara and Berbice rivers. It is located on the east bank of the Demerara river and is operated by Demerara Distillers Ltd (DDL). Having consolidated the production of a number of former distilleries (namely Enmore and Uitvlugt), Diamond is home to what it refers to as Guyana's "heritage stills," among which are the only operational wooden stills left in the world.
The distillery's metal and wooden pot and column stills produce a variety of different marques which are mostly blended to produce DDL's flagship El Dorado label. Single marque or single still rums are also occasionally bottled following the success of the DDL collaboration with Velier in the 2000s and 2010s.
Given that its proprietary label is the El Dorado brand, the Diamond name is more commonly seen on independent than official bottlings however it does occasionally appear on single still or single marque bottlings. The most notable of these were the Demerara Distillers Ltd (DDL) collaborations with Velier between 2005 and 2014.
Although not as a standalone brand, the Diamond name has also been used on various El Dorado releases, including its Blended in the Barrel range.
